THE HARLEM SESSIONS

We launched The Harlem Sessions in 2015, and are proud to announce that we have just received Fiscal Sponsorship from Fractured Atlas a 501(c)(3) public charity in order to further our overall mission. The Harlem Sessions is a performance jam session concept - a vision part inspired by my time in residence at Langston Hughes Houseand my long -time mentor, Abbey Lincoln’s concept of Moseka House. Unlike other traditional jam sessions, we focus on developing a musical menu - a repertoire less travelled, to highlight some of the composers and lyricists we found most inspirational. We also wanted to cultivate an ensemble approach to building new arrangements in front of an audience, rather than a place where everyone was a soloist. A truly safe space to create and expound in.As our family grew, we found opportunities to represent our neighborhood on a wider level, with performances at Cape May Jazz Festival, Summer Stage, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Catskills Jazz Factory, with ensembles featuring some notable mentors alongside up and coming talent. Summer 2018 sees our first release from The Harlem Sessions Ensemble and the launch of our music program at Lenox Hill Neighborhood House as part of their CARE program for patient with Alzheimers and other forms of dementia. Our weekly late night residency continues at Smoke Jazz and Supper Club every Saturday
